ORCA DREAMS is an art comic book that combines organic shapes, vibrant colours, and symbolic metaphors to create uncomplicated drawings with quotes from thinkers, poets, and leaders that speak to the transitional collective moment we are currently living through. I use various media including acrylic paints, watercolour, ink, digital drawing, and collage to depict animals, magical creatures, plants, trees, landscapes, and everyday objects. I enjoy the challenge of finding quotes that communicate a profound or inspiring idea while also fitting into the format of a simple comic.

As a self-taught visual artist and illustrator, my art practice explores the relationship between crisis and transformation. I aspire to give expression to the interplay between the contrasting sets of emotions so indicative of our time of climate breakdown - hope/fear, love/grief, joy/anger, apathy/courage. My work provides a channel for the swirl of these feelings, which are increasingly felt and looking for expression.

My creative process is influenced by my connection to the magic around me and my expertise in climate communication. I see my work as a way to nudge others toward climate action while also serving as a reminder to slow down enough to enjoy the beauty and wonder of being alive.

My goal as an artist is to make work that uplifts and delights, moving both children and adults towards tenderness for and protection of our life-giving planet. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to pursue their own creative impulses as a way of addressing the climate crisis, building community and strengthening our relationships with the more-than-human world.
